How do I use AI to improve my CV?

Paste your CV (contact details removed) and the job advert into Claude or ChatGPT and ask it to strengthen bullet points with results and match the advert's skills truthfully. Never let it invent experience, and proofread the final version yourself.

Copy-and-paste prompt

Swap the bits in [square brackets] for your own details.

Here is my CV: [paste, personal contact details removed]. Here is the job advert: [paste]. Rewrite my CV to match this role: strengthen bullet points with results, mirror key skills from the advert truthfully, and keep it to [1–2] pages. Then list any gaps I should address in my cover letter.

How to do it

  1. Open Claude or ChatGPT and start a new chat.
  2. Copy the prompt below and replace everything in [square brackets] with your details.
  3. Read the answer and ask follow-up questions to adjust it.
  4. Save or print the result you're happy with.

What a good answer looks like

Illustrative example written by the AI My Day team to show the kind of answer you can expect. Real results vary.

Before: "Responsible for social media." After: "Ran Instagram and Facebook for a 12-person café, growing followers from 900 to 3,100 in a year and launching a weekly offer post that became our busiest day." Skills mirrored from the advert: content planning, community management, Canva. Gaps to cover in your cover letter: no paid-ads experience – mention your Google Digital Garage course.
