Can I practise a language by chatting with AI?

Ask ChatGPT or Gemini to be your conversation partner at your level on a topic you choose, gently correcting mistakes in brackets after each reply. Voice mode helps with speaking practice. Use it alongside, not instead of, a course or real conversations.

Copy-and-paste prompt

Swap the bits in [square brackets] for your own details.

Be my [language] conversation partner. My level is [beginner/intermediate]. Talk about [topic] using simple sentences. After each of my replies, gently correct mistakes in brackets, then continue the conversation.

How to do it

  1. Turn on voice mode.
  2. Paste the prompt.
  3. Chat for 10 minutes a day.
  4. Ask for a summary of your mistakes at the end.

What a good answer looks like

AI: ¡Hola! ¿Qué te gusta hacer los fines de semana? You: Me gusta ir al parque y yo jugar fútbol. AI: (Small fix: "Me gusta ir al parque y jugar al fútbol." – no need for "yo" here.) ¡Qué bien! ¿Con quién juegas al fútbol?
